MIRIA EU Project 2025

Fighting viruses, germs and bacteria!

In our daily lives, we are constantly surrounded by surfaces that can endanger not only our hands but also our health. Door handles, handrails, monitors and textiles – all these everyday touch surfaces are often breeding grounds for bacteria, viruses and germs. But the MIRIA project is now successfully raising its voice against these invisible threats and is relying on innovative technologies to make our environment safer.

A technological revolution

The MIRIA project is harnessing the power of nanotechnology to take the fight against COVID-19 and other viruses to a whole new level. The mission is clear: to target viruses before they have a chance to attack us. The aim is to develop a new form of protection using groundbreaking bio-based coatings that outshine the coronavirus.

Memories of the pandemic

It was only a few years ago that we were in the midst of a pandemic. The coronavirus pandemic has fundamentally changed our lives and presented us with enormous challenges. Today, as memories of that time have faded, we tend to suppress the possibility of another outbreak. But the truth is: new viruses can emerge again and again, against which we appear powerless. It is therefore all the more important to take proactive measures and invest in technologies that will help us to better manage such situations in the future.

The power of networking

With the support of 15 companies from 8 different countries, the MIRIA project demonstrates the importance of international collaboration in the fight against pandemic threats. A €5.9 million funding package from the European Commission underscores the relevance of the project and its goal of making public places safer.

Invisible protection for all

The goal of the MIRIA project is to develop invisible yet effective protective layers that can be applied to surfaces such as screens, stainless steel and textiles to protect against harmful germs. These innovative solutions are designed not only to minimize the risk of virus transmission, but also to promote the general well-being of people in their environment.

Scientists in dialogue

A highlight of the MIRIA project will take place on April 8-9, 2025: The intellectual heavyweights of the scientific world will gather at VTT in Finland. Here, groundbreaking thoughts and ideas will shape the next link in the chain of prevention and drive the exchange of knowledge and innovation.

The MIRIA project is more than just a research approach – it is a declaration of war that focuses on our health and safety. Let us shape the future of hygiene together and stand up to viruses, germs and bacteria! We are actively working to learn from the lessons of the past and to be better prepared for possible future challenges.
